Healthy pastures include a variety of grasses and legumes with limited weeds or bare areas. We estimate the composition of each pasture using 4 ft2grids placed randomly throughout the pasture. Common pasture forages include tall fescue, KY bluegrass, orchardgrass and white clover.

Results are compiled on a datasheet for each pasture containing botanical composition of each grid as well as an average for the pasture.  Photographs of grids are also provided and the GPS location of each sample point is represented on a map of the pasture. This data is utilized to make detailed recommendations for each pasture.

Farms that participate multiple times will also receive charts and graphs for each pasture representing the changes in species composition over the years.  These are particularly helpful when evaluating the effectiveness of management changes or improvements made.
