• Savannah Robin, an alumna of the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and one the very first interns within UK Ag Equine Programs' office more than 10 years ago, has been named its new equine science and management internship coordinator. She will begin June 11.

  • The University of Kentucky Ag Equine Programs will host its 10th annual UK Equine Career and Opportunity Fair from 4:30 to 7 p.m. EST March 6th at Spindletop Hall in Lexington. The fair is planned each year by students for students through a class within UK’s Equine Science and Management undergraduate degree program.

  • Lloyd’s of London and the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment celebrated more than 25 years of their long-term partnership and Lloyd’s continued financial support in 2017. Representatives from Lloyd’s recently presented a $50,000 check to UK to continue their support of the international publication, Equine Disease Quarterly, which published its 100th issue in July.

  • Students filed into the West Jessamine Middle School library, whispering to one another about what was hiding under tablecloths. Dr. Uneeda Bryant, a veterinary pathologist from the University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, brought an interactive learning experience to teach students about the lab’s role in safeguarding animal health in Kentucky and about career options in veterinary medicine.

  • University of Kentucky Ag Equine Programs will host a Pastures Please!! pasture maintenance workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. EST Jan. 22 at the Scott County Extension office, 1130 Cincinnati Road in Georgetown. The event is free, and snacks will be provided prior to the event by McCauley’s Feeds.

    Horse owners, farm owners and farm managers will have the opportunity to listen to several informative talks from forage extension specialists about seeding, weeding and general pasture management.

  • University of Kentucky Ag Equine Programs will host the 7th Annual UK Equine Showcase and the 9th Annual Kentucky Breeders’ Short Course Feb. 2-3 at the Fayette County Extension office, 1140 Harry Sykes Way, in Lexington.

    The UK Equine Showcase will highlight the university’s equine programs and relevant industry findings with an emphasis on safety and horse welfare. It will run from 1 to 5 p.m. EST Feb 2.

They are accomplished in concert with industry stalwarts who give of their time, talents and wisdom. One such linchpin, Lexington-based veterinarian Tom Riddle, was recently named the 2017 Friend of University of Kentucky Ag Equine Programs. The award recognizes the many impacts he has had on equine research and education within UK’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
