Research in Equine and Agricultural Disciplines (READ)

The Research in Equine and Agricultural Disciplines (READ) Club aims to educate undergraduates about agricultural and equine-based research at UK and get them involved in projects, allowing them to network with other researchers and gain the skills necessary to go on to graduate school, vet school or other professional programs. Currently the club holds two meetings a month. The first meeting is more traditional in format with a speaker, while the second meeting every month is focused around journal article discussions. Students will be given the opportunity to present about scientific articles they have read and then discuss them with the other members of the club. In addition to its regular meetings, the club plans on taking field trips to equine research departments and companies in Lexington, as well as have lab days where students can learn lab techniques pertinent to research. The faculty advisors are Kristine Urschel (Animal and Food Sciences) and Amanda Adams (Gluck Equine Research Center).
