Congrats, you crossed the finish line! Now what?
Equine Science and Management alumni have the ability to remain connected to UK Ag Equine Programs through a variety of avenues. Alumni are encouraged to get involved with the UK Equine Alumni Affiliate Network (EQAAN) to maintain and build relationships with fellow alums and industry professionals. Alumni also have the opportunity to stay connected with current students and the program through events, providing internship host site opportunities, job-shadowing, assisting with mock interviews, mentoring, serving as a program advisor and much more.
Alumni have the opportunity to attend alumni and student-focused events throughout the year. EQAAN hosts several marquee events for alumni, one of the most popular being an annual tailgate at the Land Rover Kentucky Three Day Event.
UK Ag Equine Programs welcomes alumni at current and prospective student events. Experience Equine Day is a student recruitment event for prospective students and their families to learn all about the University of Kentucky and the Equine Science and Management degree program. Alumni attend this event to speak with prospective students and families regarding their educational experiences and how the program has positively impacted their career and life.
The Equine Science and Management Internship Showcase Receptions are another event where alumni are encouraged to attend. This event is held once a semester to highlight the accomplishments of students who completed their internship for equine course credit and involves alumni selecting an outstanding student for the Alumni Choice Award.
Other student events alumni can attend include the Welcome Back BBQ and Get the Scoop events typically held in the fall at the start of a new academic year. Be sure to follow our events page to see what we have planned!
Alumni are frequently asked to speak to current students in equine classes about their experiences and careers in the equine industry.
As part of the UK Ag Equine Programs Internship Program, students are required to complete an internship for course credit. We are always looking to partner with program alumni who are interested in hiring student interns while providing a hands-on learning experience.
The equine industry is continuously evolving and we recognize our program alums are consistently finding career paths in every sector of the industry. Students are often required to shadow an industry professional to become more familiar with the careers and opportunities that exist. As an alum working in the equine industry, you can share your career with current students.
As part of the EQM 305 Equine Careers course, students participate in mock interviews to prepare them in searching for jobs in the equine industry. We enjoy having program alums volunteer to interview students.
Under the Equine Alumni Affiliate Network (EQAAN), there are multiple committees where program alums can lend their skills and expertise to assist with EQAAN efforts. The committees include, but are not limited to the Executive Committee, Marketing and Development Committee, Finance Committee, Membership and Outreach Committee and multiple Social and Networking Events & Education Committees.
If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact the EQAAN President, Hannah Niebielski via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
