Mane Mission
Mane Mission; Celebrating 20 years of equine excellence through a year of service to our equine industry
What is Mane Mission?
UK Ag Equine Programs was created based on a need to serve the horse industry…and the horse. It is quite literally our tagline, “The horse is at the heart of everything we do.”
There is an important synergy between the University of Kentucky and the equine industry. In recognition of that partnership and in conjunction with the 20th Anniversary celebration of UK Ag Equine Programs in 2025, students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the program are encouraged to join in a collective effort to bank at least 5,000 hours of service to the equine industry. Every hour volunteered solidifies our commitment to the horse and the industry that supports the horse.
That effort began with the annual service event, Weekend of Service, Nov. 2-3, 2024.
Should I Participate?
If you are an undergraduate student, graduate student, alumni, faculty, staff, administrator or simply anyone who considers themselves a friend and supporter of UK Ag Equine Programs, you are eligible to participate!
How Can I Serve?
Find an individual, a non-profit, a business organization or a cause that needs help. We all know that the equine industry relies heavily on volunteerism, so perhaps you might contribute your time to a horse show or other event or at a local non-profit (like equine-assisted activities and therapies, rescue/rehab/adoption facilities, local organizations like your state Horse Council, etc.) Or maybe you serve on the board of an organization or volunteer time at a local barn or other business. Your service isn’t limited to the equine industry - any act of service and volunteerism counts, because equine industry participants are an important part of the community at large.
As you accumulate your hours, submit them here. You can log hours as often as you like, and there is no limit on the number of submissions. The entire process will take less than one minute to complete.
Many of you are already volunteering and serving your communities, so keep up the excellent work and make sure to submit your hours as you complete them.
Blue Ribbon Accolades
Horse people love blue ribbons! We will have prizes for the following superlatives:
- Most volunteer hours completed overall
- Most volunteer hours completed each month
- Best picture/video from volunteering each month
In addition, the first 100 people with 10 hours will receive a commemorative t-shirt, and anyone who volunteers at least 10 hours during the course of the year will receive a small gift.
